How to open a DVD folder with Windows Media Player

If you've always been a WMP fan and have never bothered to download third-party video players such as VLC, KMPlayer, GOM Player, BS Player, etc, you might want to know how to open DVDs that are stored on your computer.

Normally when you insert the DVD into your CD/DVD drive, Windows will ask you if you wish to play the disc using Windows Media Player, or you can simply double-click on the DVD drive and the movie will start. What about if the DVD files are stored on your hard drive and you do not see any option to play it by right-clicking the folder?

In this guide I will be using Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7.

Opening a DVD folder with WMP

Step 1: Run Windows Media Player and press the Alt key. A context menu should then appear at the top left corner.
Go to File -> Open:

Step 2: Browse to the DVD folder that you have and go inside the VIDEO_TS folder. In there, select VIDEO_TS.ifo file:

Step 3: Open it and your movie should start.

And that is the simple way of opening a DVD directory with Windows Media Player from your hard drive.
